Changing your PMC linux password

  1. ssh into public.pmc.ucsc.edu or any other managed linux machine
    • - e.g. from a mac or linux terminal type: ssh someusername@public.pmc.ucsc.edu

  2. at the command prompt type the command: "passwd"
  3. you will be prompted for your old or temporary password once and for your new password twice.
  4. note that if you have accounts on any of the following high performance clusters you will need to change the passwords on those machines independent of the password you use for the other managed linux workstations:
    1. mip
    2. cascade
    3. eke
    4. turbulence
  5. The clusters "instability" and "eddy" use the same account database as the other managed linux machines.
